TERMS OF SERVICE
Last updated 2 June 2026
Draft pending legal review — not yet legally binding.
1. Introduction, scope, and acceptance
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of System Design Lab (the “Platform”), including courses, lessons, downloadable resources, and any communications we send you.
The Platform is operated by System Design Lab, a sole proprietorship operated by Dave Connis, based in Georgia, USA. Contact: hello@systemdesignlab.co.
By creating an account, purchasing a membership, or otherwise using the Platform, you agree to be legally bound by these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Platform.
2. Memberships, billing, and auto-renewal
2.1 Plan types
We offer a free tier (limited content) and paid memberships billed monthly or annually (“Memberships”). Current pricing is shown on the pricing page and at checkout.
2.2 Payment and auto-renewal
Membership fees are charged upfront at the start of each billing cycle through our payment processor, Stripe. By providing payment details, you authorize us and Stripe to charge the applicable fee at purchase and at each renewal.
Memberships automatically renew at the end of each term (monthly or annual) at the then-current price unless you cancel before the renewal date. We'll send a renewal reminder before each annual renewal to the email on your account.
2.3 Cancellation
You may cancel anytime from your account settings or by emailing hello@systemdesignlab.co. Cancellation stops future charges; you keep access until the end of your current paid period. Cancelling does not entitle you to a refund for the current period.
2.4 Refunds and EU withdrawal rights
Except as required by law, all payments are non-refundable.
EU residents — 14-day right of withdrawal. If you reside in the European Union, you have a legal right to withdraw from your initial Membership purchase within 14 days of the purchase date, unless you have already accessed the digital content.
By starting to watch lessons or otherwise accessing paid content on the Platform before the 14-day period ends, you expressly consent to immediate performance and acknowledge that you waive the 14-day right of withdrawal. This right applies only to the first purchase of a Membership; renewals are a continuation of the same contract and are not treated as new purchases.
2.5 Receipts
An emailed receipt is sent automatically after each successful payment. If you need a more detailed invoice for tax purposes, contact hello@systemdesignlab.co.
3. Access and use
A Membership grants you a personal, non-transferable license to access the Platform content during your subscription term.
You may not: share your account credentials, resell access, screen-record or redistribute course videos or written materials, scrape the Platform, or attempt to circumvent access controls or paywalls.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. Where possible, we'll contact you first to give you a chance to remedy the violation.
4. Marketing communications
By creating an account, you agree to receive transactional emails (account, billing, and platform updates). These are not optional while your account is active.
You may separately opt in to receive product updates, new-lesson announcements, and occasional educational emails. Each of these has its own unsubscribe link and you can opt out at any time. For EU residents, marketing emails are sent in accordance with GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive.
5. Your content (notes and feedback)
Notes and feedback you create on the Platform remain yours. You grant System Design Lab a limited license to store, display, and process this content as needed to provide the service.
You can export or delete your notes at any time from your account. When you delete your account, your notes are permanently removed within 30 days.
6. Consumer rights (EU residents)
Nothing in these Terms limits your statutory rights under EU consumer law, including:
- Clear information about pricing and renewal terms.
- The right to cancel auto-renewal at any time before renewal.
- A 14-day withdrawal right for the initial purchase, unless waived as described in section 2.4.
- The right to a refund for substantially defective digital content.
7. Intellectual property
All Platform content — including course videos, lesson scripts, written materials, graphics, code, designs, logos, trademarks, and the “System Design Lab” name — remains the exclusive property of System Design Lab or its licensors and is protected by US and international copyright and trademark law.
We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access the content for your own learning during your Membership. Any other use requires written permission.
8. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The Platform is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the maximum extent permitted by law. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, error-free playback, or that any specific outcome will result from taking the courses.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, System Design Lab is not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages. Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or related to these Terms or the Platform shall not exceed the amount you paid for your most recent subscription period.
Nothing in this section limits liability that cannot be excluded under the laws of your country of residence (e.g. consumer-law rights for EU residents).
9. Taxes
Prices shown on the Platform are in US dollars and do not include taxes unless otherwise stated. Where required by law, US state sales tax is calculated and added at checkout via Stripe Tax.
For customers outside the US: System Design Lab is not currently registered for VAT in the European Union or other foreign jurisdictions. Any import duties, VAT, or other taxes that may apply in your jurisdiction are your responsibility. We will update this section if our tax registration status changes.
10. Third-party services and sub-processors
We use the following third-party services to operate the Platform. Each is bound by its own privacy and security commitments:
- Stripe — payments and subscription billing
- Supabase — account database and authentication
- Mux — video hosting and playback
- Resend — transactional and marketing email delivery
- Vercel — application hosting
See our Privacy Policy for details on what data each service receives.
11. Governing law and jurisdiction
For US residents and customers outside the EU: these Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. You and System Design Lab agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Georgia for any dispute arising out of or related to these Terms or the Platform.
For EU residents: these Terms are governed by the laws of your country of residence, and disputes may be brought before the competent courts of that country, in accordance with EU consumer law.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced by email to the address on your account at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
